FAQs

Here are answers to some of the more frequent questions we are asked about flooring.

Is your work guaranteed?

Yes, as a minimum, we guarantee our fitting for one year from the date of installation, in addition to the manufacturer's guarantee for the product in question.

What can you do if my floor suffers from damp?

Generally speaking, this only affects sub-floors of concrete or similar construction, but if a sub-floor suffers from excessive damp, it is important to take some form of remedial action.

First, it is advisable to ascertain the source of the damp, and where possible, address that source.  This may be very straightforward, or quite involved.

If the damp is too expensive to rectify at source, it may be possible to install a damp proof membrane.  Such membranes do not generally seal in the damp, but allow it to escape at a controlled rate, allowing a floor covering to be fitted.

Damp problems can vary from the minor to the very serious, and we offer free site surveys as part of our estimating service.  Please note that we are only specialists in dampness as it pertains to the installation of floor coverings, and therefore on occasion it may be necessary for a customer to engage the services of a damp specialist.

Do I need to renew my underlay?

Generally speaking, it is advisable to renew your underlay when you change your carpet.  Carpet life can be extended by up to 40% [source: The Carpet Foundation] by the use of new, good quality underlay, and your floor will feel more comfortable and luxurious underfoot to boot.

There are some occasions where changing your underlay is not warranted.  For example, if a carpet is damaged shortly after having been installed with new underlay, it would probably not be necessary to renew the underlay.  However, as a rule of thumb, we recommend changing your underlay when carpets are renewed.

Can I borrow samples?

Yes, we encourage you to borrow samples so that you can see the product you are considering in your own environment.

It is highly advisable to consider your prospective purchase in the comfort of your own home, with the benefit of being able to reflect on how the product will complement your decor, furnishings etc.

We also advise you to study the product in both natural and artificial light, and we are happy for you to borrow samples for as long as you reasonably need to consider your purchase.

We do not charge for samples, though we do ask for a security deposit for samples of soft furnishings (we do not take deposits for flooring samples).  Other than that, all we ask is a note of your contact details.

Will you fit on Saturdays or out-of-hours?

By arrangement, yes.  Work undertaken on Saturdays is generally undertaken at normal rates, but evening or night work generally carries a premium on the labour element.

Will you uplift and dispose of our existing floor coverings?

Yes - most customers ask us to remove and dispose of existing floor coverings as part of the work, though you are welcome to do so yourself if you prefer.

Please note in common with other retailers we need to levy a charge for this service.
