Karndean is a realistic and practical alternative to natural products such as wood and stone. It is not inherently hard or cold, and will not splinter, ship or crack.
Frequently used in kitchens and bathrooms, Karndean is suitable for many areas including hallways, reception rooms, bedrooms and many commercial settings including reception areas and offices/meeting rooms.
Categorically, yes. Karndean is an inherently waterprrof product, and while it is not suitable for a genuine wetroom, it is slip resistant, easy to maintain, and can be mopped.
It is not damaged by normal day-to-day bathroom use.
Yes. We need to use high temperature adhesive, but Karndean is not adversely affected by underfloor heating. It has a low tog rating, and therefore allows transmission of heating through to the floor surface. We can provide technical details on request.
No. Scotia beading (or quadrant) is used with wooden flooring installations around the perimeter of the room to provide an expansion gap, as this is necessary with wooden floor installations. Karndean however is more stable, and not prone to substantial expansion or contraction as in the case of wooden flooring.
Therefore, while there is no reason not to fit Karndean underneath skirtings, there is no need to use scotia or quadrant, and this makes for a neat and tidy installation.
Absolutely. Karndean is frequently used in reception rooms, hallways, bedrooms, and indeed almost every type of room in both domestic and commercial properties. Add a rug to give a softer feel underfoot, or to include additional colours or designs to your room.
Karndean is nothing like as prone to scratching than real wood, but it will scratch if abused. We recommend the use of felt furniture pads (eg on the bottom of table and chair legs) to limit any damage from dragging furniture.
Generally, no. Karndean is very resilient, and is rarely damaged by point loading. That said, it is always prudent to look after your floor and take care to prolong its life and reduce unnecessary damage and wear.
